LivCor, a Blackstone portfolio company, is a real estate asset management business specializing in multi-family housing. Formed in 2013 and headquartered in Chicago, LivCor is currently responsible for a portfolio of over 400 Class A and B properties comprising more than 150,000 units in markets across the United States.

Our business is focused on making real estate more valuable. But for us, it’s more than that. It’s people first, community always. It’s a life-filled career, not just a career-filled life. It’s doing good work, with good humans, and making a difference. It’s excellence in all its forms. Ultimately, we create great places to work, live, and grow. We do that by focusing on leaving people – and places – better than we found them.

Whew! Still with us? Cool. Let’s talk about where you’d fit in:

We are looking for a Director – Product & Experience to join a team that is helping shape the future of our multi-family residential real estate. This is a new role and team that will help strategically prioritize what LivCor should explore, pursue, and monitor to better deliver for its range of stakeholders (including residents, teammates, and investors) in the years ahead.

In this role, you will initially be helping develop our innovation strategy through exploration and documentation. We will be analyzing opportunities that may include new ways of doing business and leading implementation to turn ideas into action. This covers the full spectrum of innovation, from implementing existing solutions into our current business model to envisioning entirely new ways of asset and property managing multi-family residential real estate.

The role and work will evolve over time, and you will help drive that evolution. All of this is hugely collaborative and will both involve leading work directly and partnering with leaders from across the business to get results.

This is an opportunity to help shape an industry-leading innovation capability and find new ways to drive value creation. With the scale and reach of LivCor, our investors, and our partners, the possibilities for impact are exponential.

What You Will Do:

Reporting to the VP – Product & Experience, initial responsibilities will include:

  • Support development of LivCor’s innovation strategy to ensure our effort is focused in the right areas to be the most impactful.
  • Generate ideas about new ways to create value in scaled multi-family residential asset and property management, including but not limited to the resident (customer) experience, teammate experience, and capital deployment.
  • Help create new products, programs, and business initiatives – or enhance existing ones.
  • Engage with the property management, technology, venture capital and startup ecosystem (in ways relevant to LivCor’s innovation focus areas) to monitor potential opportunities for partnerships or investments in the future.
  • Conduct research using a variety of internal and external sources, including existing data analysis and interviews with subject matter experts.
  • Help identify the right subject matter experts, consultants, or implementation partners to add velocity to program development and execution.
  • Monitor technology, industry, and policy trends related to key innovation opportunity areas.
  • Provide input on existing business initiatives to ensure connectivity between the here and now and where we think we may go in the future.
  • Facilitate and lead project meetings and workstreams.
  • Prepare presentations, briefing documents, and other materials as needed.
  • Help create processes and systems required by a new team.
  • Other relevant work as required.

What You Should Have:

Candidates may come from a number of different backgrounds, but at a minimum they should have a proven track record of working strategically and in areas of high ambiguity. You must be collaborative, able to learn by watching, and a self-starter who doesn’t just contribute but identifies opportunities and leads them. The ability to see the big picture and forensically zoom into the details is essential.

Required:

  • Strong academic credentials (minimum bachelor’s degree) and a progressive professional track record demonstrating excellence in all pursuits.
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience with some combination of customer experience, product strategy/development, technology, corporate innovation, strategy, consulting, business operations, private equity, angel investing, venture capital/incubation.
  • Experience in a new team/startup environment, helping create team processes and systems.
  • A proven track record in leading or contributing to new product & program development, or large-scale business changes.
  • Expertise in and excitement about all aspects of innovation and customer experience, including business model innovation and technology.
  • Experience leading teams both directly and through influence, in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Experience facilitating group discussions, leading projects, influencing others and making decisions.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to synthesize ideas and information (financial and non-financial) into easily digestible material that earns trust and creates alignment.
  • A creative, flexible, radically open-minded attitude – excited about new ideas while also grounded in practical realism and desire to get things done.
  • Literacy and familiarity with a range of prevailing innovation methods, frameworks, and theories.
  • Comfort with the unconventional.
  • A sense of humor.

Highly regarded, but optional:

  • Familiarity with multi-family or residential real estate, including but not limited to investment, development, asset management, and property management.
  • An existing understanding of trends in areas such as AI, robotics, automation, the future of work, and the future of the built environment.
  • Experience in supporting innovation, transformation, or change management in large organizations.

What we offer:

We know that if we take care of our team everything else will fall into place. We aren’t perfect, but we will try to set very clear expectations, always let you know where you stand, and do everything in our power to help you get where you want to go.

Our culture and values matter to us. A lot. We’re definitely not serious but we take this stuff seriously, if you get what we mean. We want a place that is an ego-free zone. A place where good people do good things together. It shouldn’t be rocket science in workplaces, but for some reason it still is? We’re absolutely determined to be different, and we think we’re doing a pretty good job at it. We have a CEO who makes fun of himself, and who will encourage you to tell him when he is wrong. In fact, he needs people to – we all do. Supportive challenge is good, it’s how we get better. We like getting better. We also love diversity, of all kinds. We need people who look, sound, speak, love, and exist differently from one another. This isn’t at the end of this paragraph because it’s an afterthought. It’s SO important to us we want it to stand out.

Right. On to the technical stuff that we know matters to you. We offer competitive pay that is commensurate with the market and relevant experience, and a full slate of benefits that even includes things like paid parental leave.

If any of this sounds interesting, then maybe we are a fit. Life is too short to work with people you don’t like. So whatever you do, don’t make that mistake.

The LivCorian Values

  1. Be you. Be Real. Be Open. You do you. Together, we will do something amazing.
  2. Care, Always. We don’t want to let anyone down.
