    Role Summary

    In this newly created role, our successful candidate will be responsible for the sustainability strategy across two world-class real estate platforms: LivCor and ShopCore.  The Senior Director will develop and execute strategies that capture value from the efficient use of sustainable and other forms of energy and performance improvement technology.  The successful candidate will have the ability to think strategically and translate research and insights into viable recommendations for action. This leader will serve as the subject matter expert for sustainability by assessing emerging trends and communicating and educating others on relevant topics along with the ShopCore/LivCor program. S/he will work with Senior Leadership, Asset Managers, and Third-Party Management Companies to implement and track best practices across our portfolio.  Additionally, it is expected s/he will be able to inform and influence a diverse constituency of C-suite officers, industry sustainability leaders, Operators, Blackstone Senior Management, etc.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Designing, implementing, and administering both organizations’ sustainability strategy by:
      • Identifying applications for existing technology and new innovations
      • Developing tools to capture performance improvement data
      • Creating metrics, and analyzing and tracking progress to drive the vision of the program
      • Communicating program strategy, goals, metrics and playbooks to various levels, C-suite to asset level site management teams
      • Creating awareness and promoting engagement with educational communications highlighting success stories and case studies
    • Collaborating with C-suite leadership on approaches to reduce energy consumption, add value and improve tenant well-being for both asset classes: multifamily and retail
    • Providing required information to Blackstone functions responsible for data, performance improvement, procurement, and communication associated with energy and environmental performance
    • Partner with Blackstone’s Portfolio Operations Group, consulting engineers and other third-party experts to reduce operating costs and mitigate future increases while driving ROI-based decisions.
    • Assessing and ensuring compliance of Local, State, Federal, and Global energy performance and carbon-related regulations. Proactively identify risk where these require public disclosure of performance data.
    • Functioning as the primary contact on all sustainability related items for both companies
    • Establishing and maintaining sustainability partnerships with peers, and sustainability leaders and influencers

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

    • 10+ years of relevant experience
    • A BA or BS in Engineering, Sustainability or a complementary field to sustainability is preferred
    • Strong network within sustainability, environmental and other related communities required
    • Outstanding interpersonal & communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work closely and communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
    • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, independent and results oriented with the ability to motivate and engage direct and indirect team members and stakeholders
    • Leadership role in managing complex projects
    • Proven track record of senior stakeholder management and influence
    • Ability to balance the importance of a sustainability position within a fast-paced investment setting
